Noah Gabriel da Cruz Santos, a one-month-old baby, was declared dead after suffering heart and lung complications at Santa Casa hospital in São Paulo, Brazil, on July 15. However, funeral worker Regina Célia Paschoal later discovered him moving inside a body bag.
Hospital Statement and Protocol
Santa Casa stated that it adhered to all proper protocols regarding Noah's death declaration. CPR was performed for 45 minutes, and when efforts failed, Noah was pronounced dead that afternoon. The hospital emphasized: 'The Brazilian protocol for confirming death is recognised for its high standards of rigour and safety.'
Funeral Worker's Account
Regina Célia Paschoal, with 17 years of experience, told EPTV: 'I opened it, and the baby started moving even more; he was making a noise, as if trying to breathe.' Her colleague Mattheus Batagello initially questioned the movement, saying: 'It was a desperate moment, but also a relief, you know?' He alerted nurses after noticing a 'sort of hiccupping sound.' Noah was readmitted to the neonatal unit for intensive care.
Mother's Reaction
Noah's mother, Letícia Cristina da Cruz Santos, posted a video on social media, saying: 'We are contemplating God's greatness and admiring our little warrior, who continues to fight to get well. We fully believe in our miracle [...] miracles can't be explained; they must be experienced.' She added: 'Sometimes I feel like we're dreaming... I actually witnessed the moment it happened, how the doctor reacted and how hard she fought to try to resuscitate him.'
She shared that she and her husband spent about an hour with their child after he passed away. When informed Noah was alive, she said: 'When we arrived, we went back into the ICU, and they told us about our miracle. All I could do was say "Glory to God" and weep.'
Noah's revival occurred on the day he was originally due to be born; he had been born a month early.
