A crash on the A19, on the approach to the Tyne Tunnel, has closed the road southbound, with a large emergency services presence at the scene.
Collision at A193 Wallsend Road junction
The collision took place at the junction with the A193 Wallsend Road, just before 2.50pm, and traffic is being held while work is ongoing in the area.
TT2, the operator of the tunnels, has reported that northbound traffic is slow moving due to the North Tyneside incident, and will be providing customers with further updates.

Northumbria Police, the North East Ambulance Service, and Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service have been contacted for comment.
