70 Firefighters Tackle Major Blaze at Hackney Hotel

Ten fire engines and approximately 70 firefighters are currently tackling a significant blaze that broke out on an upper floor of a hotel on Amhurst Road in Hackney, close to Hackney Central station. The London Fire Brigade (LFB) received the first of 14 emergency calls at 4:52 PM on 28 June 2026. Crews from Homerton, Bethnal Green, Shoreditch, Islington, and surrounding fire stations have been mobilised to the scene.

Public Urged to Avoid Area

Locals have been advised to keep their windows and doors closed due to heavy smoke billowing from the building. Drivers and pedestrians are being told to avoid the area to allow emergency services to operate. The LFB stated: "Please avoid the area if you can at this time." Traffic in the vicinity has been disrupted, and further road closures may be implemented.

Cause Under Investigation

The cause of the fire is not yet known. Firefighters are working to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to neighbouring properties. The LFB has not reported any casualties at this stage, but the incident is ongoing. This is a breaking news story and updates will follow as more information becomes available.
