Jean Higginbottom, 73, from Hyde, has been named as the woman who died in a head-on crash on the Woodhead Pass in Tameside.
Ms Higginbottom was driving a silver Renault Clio along the A628 Manchester Road in Hollingworth on Wednesday afternoon (August 19) when a Nissan Pixo collided with her close to Millbrook House at around 2:30pm, Derbyshire Police said. National Highways previously described it as a 'head on collision.'
Emergency response and family support
Emergency services, including police and paramedics, attended the scene. Ms Higginbottom was pronounced dead at the scene. "Her family are aware and are being supported by specialist officers," the force said.
Arrest and ongoing enquiries
The driver of the Nissan, a man in his 20s also from Hyde, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been bailed as enquiries continue.
"Officers remain keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, and has not already been spoken to by officers, as well as anyone who may have dashcam or CCTV footage that may be able to help their enquiries," the force added.
Road closure and investigation
Anyone with information is asked to call the force on 101, through their website or Facebook page, quoting the reference number 26000497396.
The Woodhead Pass was closed between Hollingworth and neighbouring Tintwistle for almost eight hours as specialist officers carried out investigation work and contractors dealt with a spillage at the scene.
