Savannah Guthrie, the NBC Today show host, has announced a reward of up to $1 million for information leading to the safe return of her 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, who has been missing since 1 February. In a video posted on Instagram on Tuesday, Guthrie appealed directly to the public: 'Someone out there knows something that can bring her home. We are begging you to please come forward now.'
Authorities believe Nancy Guthrie was kidnapped from her home near Tucson, Arizona, on 31 January. She was reported missing the following day. Investigators have found drops of blood on her front porch and recovered DNA from a glove two miles from her house, which resembled one worn by a suspect in surveillance footage. However, officials have said the DNA did not yield new leads.
Guthrie acknowledged the possibility that her mother 'may be lost. She may already be gone,' but added: 'We still believe in a miracle.' The family had initially been advised to hold off on offering a reward as tips flooded in, but with leads slowing down, they decided to proceed, according to media reports.
In addition to the reward, the Guthrie family has donated $500,000 to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to support families coping with missing loved ones. Guthrie urged anyone with information to call federal investigators anonymously at 1-800-CALL-FBI or to contact her directly.
