Prince Harry is set to return to the UK next week alongside his wife, Meghan Markle, and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, for a brief visit from July 7 to 11. The primary purpose is to attend the one-year countdown event for the 2027 Invictus Games, which will be held in Birmingham next July.
Royal residence offered by King Charles
King Charles has offered the Sussex family a royal residence to stay in during their visit, marking a potential step towards reconciliation. However, this will be the first time the couple has visited the UK together since September 2022, when they attended the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet have not been to the UK since June 2022.
Security concerns cast doubt on trip
Despite initial plans for the whole family to travel, doubt emerged last week after the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (RAVEC) "paused" the independent Risk Management Board (RMB) without explanation. The Duke of Sussex's office had been informed previously that this issue would have been resolved by March.
A spokesperson for Harry stated that he "continues to explore every available option to enable the visit to proceed safely and to give his children the opportunity to enjoy the UK."
Harry's recent US appearance at Warrior Games
Just days before his UK trip, Harry attended the 2026 Warrior Games in San Antonio, Texas, in June. Photos shared on Instagram by @warriorcarephotos showed him posing with attendees. This event highlights his ongoing support for wounded servicemen and women, paralleling his work with the Invictus Games.
Security arrangements and travel plans
After reports that his request for taxpayer-funded security was denied last month, Harry and his family will likely travel with their own private security team. A source close to Harry told Page Six that the royal always travels with "one or two of his own security team." The source also revealed that the Sussexes will not be flying to the UK on a private jet, opting instead for commercial flights.
Harry's security threat level has been a contentious issue since he stepped down from royal duties in 2020, with ongoing legal battles over his security status in the UK.
