Perez Hilton's family has revealed that the celebrity blogger is in a 'serious but stable' condition following a distressing livestream that led to his hospitalization. The 48-year-old is expected to undergo surgery in the coming days, with his recovery described as a 'long process.'
Incident and Immediate Response
Police were called to Hilton's Miami home on Tuesday after viewers of his TikTok livestream reported seeing him self-harm. The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office confirmed they responded to a scene involving a man allegedly 'livestreaming acts of self-harm.'
His family later stated that his children, niece, and sister had to flee the home to avoid witnessing further trauma during what they described as 'a severe mental health crisis.'
Family Statement and Condition
In a statement posted on his Perez Hilton website on Saturday, the family said: 'Perez's condition remains serious but stable. He experienced significant blood loss and sustained additional injuries that will require surgery in the coming days. His treatment and recovery will be a long process.'
The statement also noted that Hilton's communication has been 'extremely limited and confined to immediate family, medical providers, and others directly involved in his care.' It added that he has not communicated with the media or issued any public statements.
Background and Career
Perez Hilton, whose real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr., rose to fame in the 2000s as a celebrity gossip blogger. His blog's popularity later declined, and he transitioned to reality television, appearing on shows like Celebrity Rap Superstar and Celebrity Big Brother.
He is a father to three children, a son and two daughters, born via surrogate. His family has requested privacy, saying, 'As our family remains focused on Perez's treatment and recovery, we also need the space and privacy to care for everyone affected by this situation.'
