A Fazakerley mum is devastated after losing a precious locket containing a picture and a lock of hair from her stillborn son during a visit to Aldi.
Alison Johnson, 55, has worn the locket around her neck for the past 21 years. It held a photo and a lock of hair from her son Ian, who was stillborn in October 2004. She believes the locket fell off its chain when she visited the Aldi store on Copplehouse Lane in Fazakerley last Tuesday (August 18).
Loss reopens trauma
Speaking to the ECHO, Alison explained the circumstances of Ian's death: “I had a blood clot behind the placenta which grew and pushed the placenta away from the wall. That was how he died. He was stillborn in October 2004. About two days after his birth, I got the locket and it’s been on my neck ever since.”
The loss of the locket, particularly the lock of hair, has deeply upset Alison. She said: “All I had was that lock of hair. I felt like I was losing him again. I've got no memories, I've got nothing, just that lock of hair. I haven’t got any clothes he wore. I just felt devastated to be honest. I feel like I’m going through it again because I’ve lost it now and I’ve got nothing left. I’ve gone on and had another two boys but he was my first. I don't care if the locket is all broken, smashed in, I just want the lock of hair. I’ve got a copy of the photo.”
Appeal to the public
Alison is appealing for people in the area to keep an eye out for the item. She has informed the manager at Aldi about the loss.
She said: “The picture and locket fell off the link. It was only when I went to bed on Wednesday night that I went to feel the chain and there was no locket there. I'm trying to retrace my steps. I just feel like it's gone but I'm still hoping and praying it pops up. People are saying to me, ‘stop looking and it'll just appear’ but I feel like I've got to go down every avenue. I spoke to the manager and one of the staff on the tills, and they said that had it been handed in, it would've been in this certain drawer or the back room, but there was nothing there. I just keep on going over and looking where my car was parked. If there's anybody out there who's found it, or got it, you can keep the locket, I just want the lock of hair. That's all I want.”
