A heartbroken husband has revealed the tragic moment his wife died saving their five-year-old daughter from a falling tree branch during what should have been a peaceful family outing.
The devoted mother, whose name has not yet been released, instinctively pushed her child to safety when the enormous branch suddenly gave way above them. While the little girl escaped unharmed, the courageous mum suffered fatal injuries in the horrific accident.
A Mother's Final Act of Love
"She didn't hesitate for a second," the grieving husband told reporters. "One moment we were walking together, the next she'd thrown herself between our daughter and danger. That was who she was - always putting others first."
Emergency services rushed to the scene but despite their best efforts, the heroic mother could not be saved. The devastated family are now receiving support from specialist bereavement counsellors.
Community in Mourning
Local residents have left floral tributes at the site of the tragedy, with many describing the incident as "every parent's worst nightmare". The council has since ordered urgent safety inspections of trees in the area.
"We've lost one of our brightest lights," a neighbour said through tears. "She was the kind of person who'd do anything for anyone. That she gave her life for her child doesn't surprise any of us who knew her."
The Health and Safety Executive has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.
