Former Premier League footballer Akos Buzsaky has released a statement clarifying his situation after he went missing for over a week. The ex-Queens Park Rangers and Portsmouth player, who also earned 20 caps for Hungary, addressed his whereabouts on social media.

In a Facebook post, Buzsaky explained that significant changes in his life had become overwhelming, prompting him to step away from his daily routine. He noted that a misunderstanding led his worried mother to contact the police.
He wrote: “Unfortunately, significant changes have occurred in my life over the past few months—changes that have truly put me to the test. Things became overwhelming, and I reached a point where I felt I needed to step away from my daily routine; as a result of a misunderstanding, my worried mother contacted the police.”
Career and background
Buzsaky featured 18 times in the Premier League, scoring two goals, and retired from professional football in 2015. After retiring, he turned to construction work and had been based in Greece in recent years.
The former midfielder previously spoke about struggling with addiction since retiring. On a podcast, he said: “I found a source of joy in life that I became addicted to. What addictions are there: gambling, alcohol, drugs. I fell into one of them, which I am not proud of. It is a part of my life, if I were to deny it or declare that period as not having happened, I would be deceiving myself.”
Family response
Earlier in the saga, his father told Hungarian outlet Blikk: “I didn't know that the police were also looking for my son. He basically spends a lot of time in Greece, where he works as a construction contractor. He spent almost the entire last year there. Since we don't live under the same roof, it's not surprising that we only speak less often. The last time I spoke to him was last week, when he was at home.”
In his statement, Buzsaky thanked those who worried about him and confirmed he had cut his retreat short and notified authorities. He added: “I wish everyone a wonderful day, and I am deeply touched by all the love I’ve received! Best regards.”
