A five-year-old child who went missing from Badsey, near Evesham, Worcestershire, has been found dead in a body of water. West Mercia Police were called to reports of a missing child on the evening of Wednesday, July 29.
The child was discovered unresponsive in water within the Badsey area and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police stated they believe the "incredibly tragic incident" was the result of drowning.
No suspicious circumstances
Officers confirmed there was no third-party involvement in the child's death. A report will be prepared for the coroner to open an inquest. The child's sex has not been disclosed to respect the family's privacy.
A police spokeswoman said: "Officers were called to a report of a missing child in Badsey yesterday evening. Sadly, the child was found unresponsive in a body of water, and a short time later was pronounced dead. There is no third-party involvement in the child's death, and a report will be prepared for the coroner. This is an incredibly tragic incident."
Emergency response
West Midlands Ambulance Service was called at 6.50pm and dispatched an ambulance, two paramedic officers, and the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car. A spokesperson said: "On arrival we discovered one patient, a young child. Ambulance staff and police worked quickly to treat the patient, but sadly, it became apparent nothing could be done to save them and they were confirmed dead at the scene."
Police have urged the public to avoid speculation online, as it is "incredibly distressing to the family," and asked for their privacy to be respected during this difficult time.
