Married couple Jim Mair, 43, and Stacy Mair, 35, have been named as the man and woman found dead at a remote cottage in Houston, Renfrewshire. Emergency services discovered the pair at Corsliehill Road in Johnstone on Monday, July 27, following a report of a concern for a person.
Deaths treated as unexplained
Police Scotland stated the deaths are currently being treated as unexplained. A post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death. Officers said that at this stage, there is nothing to suggest anyone else was involved.
Couple's background
The couple married in May 2019 and ran a tree surgeon company together. Stacy Mair resigned as a director of the company earlier this year. Their relatives have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
Emergency response
Photos from the scene showed multiple police vehicles outside a property in Houston, with officers visible near a cottage and vans stationed in an adjacent field. A police helicopter was also reported in the area on Monday. The Scottish Ambulance Service confirmed it received a call at 08:33 and dispatched four special operations response teams, two ambulances, and one critical care team to the scene.
Investigation ongoing
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "An investigation is ongoing into the deaths of a 36-year-old woman and a 43-year-old man in the Houston area. Around 7.50am on Monday, 27 July, 2026, we received a report of concern for a person in Corsliehill Road. Emergency services attended, and the body of a man and a woman were found nearby. The deaths are being treated as unexplained and post mortem examinations will be carried out in due course. Extensive enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances. At this time, there is nothing to suggest anyone else has been involved. Their relatives are aware and are being supported by specialist officers."
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson added: "We received a call at 08.33 to attend an incident on Barochan Road, Houston, Johnstone. Four special operations response teams (SORT), two ambulances and one critical care team were dispatched to the scene."
