A 29-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after a fire caused a major gas leak in Chryston, North Lanarkshire. Emergency services responded to the blaze at a property on Tuesday afternoon, leading to evacuations and road closures.

The fire broke out at a property in Chryston on Tuesday, July 21. Police Scotland attended, nearby homes were evacuated, and several roads were sealed off, including the A80 at its junction with Cumbernauld Road and Knowe Road. A cordon was in place, and the public was asked to avoid the area.
Charges and court appearance
A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed: "A 29-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with an attempted murder following a fire at a property in Chryston which happened on Tuesday, July 21. A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal, and he is expected to appear at Airdrie Sheriff Court on Thursday, July 23." The man is due in court on Thursday.
Aftermath
The A80 has since re-opened, and residents are believed to have been allowed to return to their homes. Chief Inspector Gareth Brown said: "Thanks to all the residents and motorists for their patience whilst we dealt with this incident."
