The parents of Luke Haffield, a 20-year-old who died after entering the River Avon in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, have spoken of their devastation. His body was recovered on 27 December following a search involving multiple emergency services.
In a statement issued through Gloucestershire Police, the family said: 'Our family is truly shocked and utterly heartbroken at the loss of our cherished son and devoted brother in such a tragic accident. He was a wonderful boy with a kind and considerate soul.'
Luke was two years into an engineering apprenticeship with Moog and was a keen sportsman, having played football, hockey, cricket, golf, darts and padel. The family described him as a 'beautiful boy' who will never be forgotten.
Gloucestershire Police thanked all agencies involved, including the fire and rescue service, the National Police Air Service, Severn Area Rescue Association, and dog handlers from West Mercia Police.
