French authorities have launched an inquiry after the remains of five infants were found in cardboard boxes at a home in Orange, south-east France.
Discovery After Hospital Birth
The investigation began after a woman born in 1994 gave birth on Monday evening. Hospital staff in Orange reported the situation to the police, citing her third case of 'pregnancy denial'.
The woman's husband reportedly searched boxes at their residence, found the first set of remains, and brought them to the hospital, prompting staff to notify authorities.
Further Remains Found at Home
When police searched the couple's home in the Vaucluse department, they uncovered additional fetal remains wrapped in plastic bags and stored in cardboard boxes, according to sources cited by French newspaper Le Parisien.
The couple are parents to two other children, aged eight and 12. The mother remains in hospital care and has not been placed under arrest.
