The family of six-year-old Kourtney McCormick, who died following a collision with a van in Newry, Northern Ireland, have expressed their gratitude to a woman who assisted them in getting her to hospital, describing her as their 'special angel.'
Crash Details and Aftermath
The incident occurred in the Springfarm Heights area of Newry on Sunday, June 21. Kourtney was rushed to Daisy Hill Hospital's A&E department and later transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, where she tragically died from her injuries. A 40-year-old woman arrested in connection with the crash has been released on bail pending further police inquiries, according to Belfast Live.
Family's Heartfelt Thanks
In a statement issued through Paul McEvoy Funeral Directors, the family said: 'We, as a family of our little Kourtney McCormick, wish to express our deepest gratitude. We are deeply touched by the outpour of support and love we received following the passing of our sweet little girl, Kourtney.'
They specifically thanked the woman who arrived at the scene: 'You are our special angel; we are internally grateful to you.'
Gratitude to Medical Staff
The family also praised the doctors and nurses at Daisy Hill Hospital who 'fought so hard to keep our Kourtney alive' and provided a guard of honour as she was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital. They thanked the surgeons and ICU staff at the Royal Victoria Hospital for their efforts, adding: 'We will be forever grateful that you gave us the chance to hold our baby and say goodbye to her in our arms.'
Community Support
The family acknowledged the overwhelming support from Kourtney's primary school, St. Patrick's the Meadow, their community, and people worldwide. They thanked neighbours, friends, local businesses that provided food for the wake, and those who participated in Kourtney's Mass Of The Angels, especially Canon Brown and The Choir Studio.
They also expressed appreciation to the PSNI officers and the priest who supported them at both hospitals, and to Paul McEvoy Funeral Directors for their dignified handling of the funeral arrangements.
