A woman who thought she found her dream man after years of disastrous relationships has been left devastated after he manipulated her into ending a pregnancy and then disappeared.
The Relationship
She met the man at a party last Christmas and was swept off her feet. Within three weeks, he said he loved her, and although she felt it was soon, she went with it. He spent most of his time at her place, where they would have dinner, watch TV, and have sex. He rarely wanted to socialize.
In April, she discovered she was pregnant. Instead of being thrilled, he persuaded her to have a termination, claiming they weren't ready to start a family. He talked about getting married, buying a house, and saving money, even setting a wedding date.
The Disappearance
Against her better judgment, she ended the pregnancy. Within a month, he said he got a job offer in Scotland, where she was meant to join him. But he has now completely disappeared and blocked her from all communication.
She is devastated to think the relationship was based on lies, and worse, she has killed the baby she wanted.
The Advice
Counsellor Laura Collins says the man sounds like a manipulative narcissist. His love-bombing was to control her. The nights alone were likely the start of isolating her from family and friends. Such men don't want to be tied down with a baby, as fatherhood would bring responsibilities.
Laura advises seeking specialist counselling to help get over the termination and looking for support groups. She says to let yourself grieve and remember healing is a personal journey. She concludes, 'You deserve better.'
