BBC Radio 2 legend Bob Harris has issued a heartfelt statement after stepping down from his show following a prostate cancer diagnosis that spread to his spine. The 56-year broadcasting veteran revealed in June that he would withdraw from hosting, and in a new social media post, he shared an update on his health and his rediscovery of time with loved ones.
Harris Opens Up About Missing Radio and Finding Time
In his statement, Harris said: "It's impossible for me to even begin to explain how much I am missing @bbcradio2 going on air and creating programmes for you. I miss my friends, I miss the studios and more than anything, I miss my listeners. But having to step back, after years and years of being busy, I have rediscovered something very special in my life - TIME."
He added that he now has "to accept that I am a slightly different version of myself now" and noted he no longer has the stamina he once had, according to a report from the Express. Harris continued: "But my cancer treatment is going well, my belief in positive thinking has been reinforced and I am embracing this opportunity to let time slow down."
Fans and Fellow Stars Show Support
Accompanying the post, Harris shared a selfie with his cats in the garden. Fans quickly expressed support, with Squeeze star Chris Difford writing: "You are an inspiration Bob. I hope to come and see you very soon." BBC presenter Ralph McClean said: "Enjoy every second my friend!"
Harris also teased a new project, stating: "Team Bob is working on an amazing project for later this year! This is a very special moment to appreciate life and the love that surrounds me. Thank you for the days!"
