The Formby Bypass remains closed two hours after a five-vehicle crash. Emergency services remain at the scene near the crossing at the junction of Altcar Road, with the northbound carriageway currently closed.

Emergency services at the scene

Emergency services were called to the site at around 2.30pm today, Monday, October 5, to reports of a crash involving five vehicles. It was reported by OTS News that an air ambulance landed nearby following the incident, although this has not been confirmed to be in connection with the crash.

At the time of writing, traffic monitoring service Inrix reports the carriageway remains closed while emergency services deal with the incident, as confirmed by Merseyside Police.

Police statement and traffic impact

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We received a report just before 2.30pm today of a collision involving five vehicles on the Formby Bypass near Tesco."

"Emergency services are at the scene dealing with the incident and we ask that drivers avoid the area if possible."

Videos seen by the ECHO shows standstill traffic travelling towards Formby from Crosby as the road remains closed.

AA traffic said: "Road closed and slow traffic due to crash on A565 Formby By Pass Northbound from B5424 Liverpool Road to B5195 Altcar Road."
