A Frontier Airlines passenger has been taken into custody after allegedly threatening to kill his seatmate and claiming to have a bomb on board a flight that had just landed in Atlanta. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon on Flight 2539, which had departed from Columbus, Ohio, around 2:30 pm.
The pilot declared a level four security alert shortly after landing at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, indicating concerns about a cockpit breach. The aircraft was diverted to a remote area of the runway while authorities conducted an investigation. Passengers were safely removed from the Airbus A320.
The Atlanta Police Department described the suspect as an “unruly passenger” rather than a legitimate hijacker. The case is now being handled by the FBI. The passenger has not yet been identified, and it remains unclear what charges he will face.
Passengers recounted a tense scene on board. One passenger, Jessica Kinder, said flight attendants instructed everyone to put their heads down and hands up. Another passenger, Keyaira Smith, reported that the man had been acting erratically before boarding and repeatedly stood up despite being told to sit down, threatening to kill flight attendants.
Frontier Airlines issued a statement confirming the aircraft parked at a remote location as a precaution. Around the same time, Atlanta officials also responded to a non-credible bomb threat at the State Farm Arena in the city.
