A 16-year-old boy has been handed a five-year casino ban after successfully sneaking into two major gambling venues for an alcohol-fuelled betting spree. The teenager allegedly used a fake driver's licence to pose as an adult during repeated visits to Crown Casino and The Star Sydney last year.
Details of the Incident
According to reports, the teen was accompanied by his mother on some of these casino trips while he managed to lose more than $21,000 gambling over several months. It is also alleged that staff served the underage boy 91 alcoholic drinks throughout his visits, raising serious concerns about the casinos' compliance with responsible service of alcohol and age verification protocols.
Regulatory Response
The Independent Casino Commission is now considering possible sanctions against both Crown Casino and The Star Sydney following this significant breach of underage gambling regulations. The commission is expected to investigate how the teenager was able to enter the venues and gamble undetected despite being under the legal age of 18.
This incident highlights ongoing issues within the Australian casino industry regarding age verification and the enforcement of laws designed to protect minors from gambling-related harm. The five-year ban imposed on the boy serves as a deterrent, but regulators are under pressure to ensure that casinos implement stricter measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
