Laptop Looters Jailed: Thieves Who Swiped Tech Worth Thousands From City Pub Patrons Sent Down
Pub laptop thieves jailed for City of London theft spree

Two prolific thieves who made a habit of stealing high-value electronics from City of London pub-goers have been handed prison sentences, bringing their crime spree to an abrupt end.

Dustin Antwi, 25, and Daniel Asare, 26, targeted The Counting House, a popular pub near Bank station, where they would identify distracted professionals working on laptops or using their phones. Operating with swift precision, the duo would snatch the devices and make a quick escape before victims even realised their belongings were gone.

A Pattern of Predatory Theft

The men's criminal activity came to light after a pattern of similar thefts was reported throughout the summer of 2023. Their method was consistent: blend in with the after-work crowd, identify valuable targets, and strike when patrons were least attentive.

Detective Constable Matt Moorhouse, the investigating officer from the City of London Police, described the pair as "prolific offenders" who showed a complete disregard for the property and privacy of their victims. "These were not opportunistic crimes," DC Moorhouse stated. "They were calculated and deliberate acts targeting people who were simply enjoying a drink after a long day's work."

Justice Served at Old Bailey

The case reached its conclusion at the Central Criminal Court, where Antwi received a sentence of two years and four months imprisonment. His accomplice, Asare, was sentenced to 20 months behind bars.

The court heard how the thefts had significant consequences for the victims, many of whom lost not only expensive equipment but also sensitive work documents and personal data. One victim expressed the profound disruption caused by losing both their laptop and phone in a single theft.

A Warning to Pub-Goers

Police are using this case to remind the public to remain vigilant with their belongings in busy social settings. "Always keep your valuables secure and within sight," advised DC Moorhouse. "Thieves like these rely on distraction and complacency."

The sentencing sends a clear message that targeting workers in City establishments will be met with serious consequences, offering some reassurance to the thousands who frequent London's pubs and cafes daily.
