Kyren Wilson, the former world snooker champion, withdrew from the Championship League Snooker event on Monday after his home was burgled while he was away competing in Leicester. The 34-year-old was scheduled to face Dylan Emery, Michal Szubarczyk, and Haydon Pinhey but pulled out following the incident.
Details of the Burglary
In a statement posted to his Instagram page, Wilson revealed that the burglary occurred between 11:04am and 11:22am on Monday morning. The offenders were captured on CCTV, and the matter has been reported to the police. Stolen items included a Cartier watch, an Audemars Piguet watch, a ladies’ Rolex Datejust with a pink dial, and a blue sapphire necklace that Wilson had bought for his wife to celebrate their 10-year wedding anniversary. Additionally, £2,000 in cash that had been set aside as a donation to the BeMoreFab Children’s Cancer Charity was taken.
Wilson's Statement
Wilson described the experience as deeply distressing, emphasizing that the sentimental value of the items far outweighed their financial worth. He said: “This has been a deeply distressing experience, not because of the value of the items alone, but because of the personal memories and meaning attached to them.” He urged anyone with information or who is offered any of the described items to contact the police immediately.
Impact on the Event
Wilson's withdrawal from the Championship League Snooker event in Leicester was confirmed by the organizers. The tournament continues with the remaining players competing in his absence. Wilson has not yet commented on when he will return to competition.
