In a shocking display of betrayal, a woman who collapsed on a London train had her phone stolen by the very people who came to her aid. The entire incident was captured on CCTV, revealing a heartless crime that unfolded moments after what appeared to be an act of kindness.
The Disturbing Sequence of Events
The drama began when the woman fell ill while travelling on a London Northwestern Railway service. Two fellow passengers rushed to help her, supporting her as she struggled to remain conscious. Railway staff were alerted and prepared to meet the train at the next station to provide medical assistance.
As the train pulled into Berkhamsted station in Hertfordshire, the situation took a sinister turn. While railway workers attended to the distressed passenger, one of the so-called 'Good Samaritans' can be seen pocketing her mobile phone before both individuals quickly disembarked.
CCTV Evidence Reveals All
The clear CCTV footage shows one man deliberately placing the phone in his pocket while maintaining the appearance of helping the vulnerable woman. His accomplice appears to act as lookout during the theft. Both then make their exit, leaving railway staff to discover the crime after they'd disappeared.
British Transport Police have released the footage in an effort to identify the suspects. Detective Constable Taryn O'Connell described the incident as "a particularly callous theft," noting that the victim was "at her most vulnerable" when the crime occurred.
Police Appeal for Information
Investigators are urging anyone who recognises the individuals in the footage to come forward. The two men are described as being in their late teens or early twenties and were both wearing dark clothing at the time of the incident on August 12.
