A British tourist has been hospitalised after being mugged at knifepoint by three attackers while admiring a city view in Lisbon, according to local reports.
The man is said to have been attacked in the early hours of this morning while with his partner. He suffered knife wounds to his arm and was taken to the Portuguese capital’s Sao Jose Hospital. The gang fled the scene with a gold necklace stolen from the couple.
The attack occurred at around 12.40am this morning near Lisbon’s famous Miradouro da Graca viewpoint, local media reported. The exact location was identified as Arco do Graca Street, a popular spot offering panoramic views over the city’s historic centre.
Portugal’s Public Security Police are investigating, but no arrests have yet been made. The identities of the British tourists have not been released.
It comes after an American tourist was stabbed to death on October 15 in the seaside resort of Cascais, a 40-minute drive west of Lisbon. That attack, initially thought to be a robbery gone wrong, was later linked by police to a street fight near a nightclub. A 23-year-old suspect was arrested.
