Blade-wielding thieves have been recorded trying to steal a motorbike outside a block of flats in Edinburgh as the horrified owners made a frantic 999 call. The incident occurred outside a home on Alan Breck Gardens in Clermiston at around 5.25pm on Friday, September 25.
Video shows thieves with blade
In a video posted online, two thugs wearing face coverings can be seen approaching the green Keeway motorcycle parked beside a gate. The clip is being recorded as the bike's owner is reporting the auto-theft to a police dispatcher.
He can be heard saying: "They're trying to steal my motorbike right now and they've got a weapon on them". Then one of the yobs appears to take a "blade" out of a sheath, before yanking at the bike and attempting to move it.
Bike taken and later ditched
Only two people are recorded in the video but the man making the report to police can be heard telling the force of a third person nearby on a moped. One would-be thief manages to finally move the bike, which is fitted with learner plates, and hops on before riding off with help from his accomplice.
The victim can be heard telling police: "They've literally just taken my bike." No one was injured in the reported incident and it's believed the motorcycle was later dumped elsewhere.
Police investigation ongoing
Police Scotland has since launched an investigation into the theft. A spokesperson for the force said: "Around 5.25pm on Friday, 25 September, 2026, officers received a report of the theft of a vehicle on Alan Breck Gardens, Edinburgh. Enquiries are ongoing."
