The North Yorkshire and South Durham Cricket League have launched an inquiry into cheating allegations against Saltburn CC after a video went viral on social media.
The footage, viewed millions of times worldwide and covered by international media, appears to show Saltburn's first slip clicking his fingers as the ball passes the bat, attempting to deceive the umpire into thinking there was contact with the wicketkeeper.
Incident During Division Two Fixture
The incident occurred during Saturday's second division match between Saltburn 2nds and Norton 2nds. The batsman objected after being dismissed, and Saltburn went on to win by 159 runs. They currently lead the league standings.
Following the video's spread, online investigators have reviewed previous Saltburn dismissals, sharing clips from last season that allegedly show the same fielder clicking during other disputed wickets.
League Statement and Reaction
A statement from the NYSD Premier Cricket League said: "The League have received a formal complaint regarding alleged incidents in a Division Two game on Saturday 25th July 2026. A full investigation has been initiated and until such time as the formal processes are complete no further comment will be made."
The incident has sparked outrage among cricket fans. Ben Mummery, who shared the original video on X, said 'it's not cricket'. Others agreed it was 'against the spirit of the game'. Both Saltburn CC and Norton CC have been approached for comment.
