Sheridan Smith will star in a new six-part mystery crime thriller for ITV, titled Two Birds. The series is set and filmed on location in Perth and Kalgoorlie, Western Australia.
Smith plays Constable Izzie Cornwell, who arrives in the remote Australian mining town of Dugdale from the UK hoping for a fresh start. A disastrous misstep pulls her into a web of deceit, guilt and rising danger as she navigates a murder investigation.
Cast and creative team
The investigation brings her up against Mrs Baxter, the fierce matriarch of a notorious local crime family, played by Jacki Weaver (Silver Linings Playbook, Animal Kingdom, Yellowstone). Smith also stars opposite Stephen Peacocke (Five Bedrooms, The Newsreader).
The series is written by Helen FitzGerald (The Cry) and Megan Palinkas (Heartbreak High), and directed by BAFTA-nominated James Griffiths (The Ballad of Wallis Island) and Corrie Chen (Good Cop/Bad Cop).
Production and release
Two Birds was commissioned on behalf of ITV by director of drama Polly Hill and drama commissioner Callum Dziedzic. It is produced by Chapter One in a co-production with Stan Australia, and in association with ITV Studios for ITV and STV, with streaming on ITVX and STV Player.
Smith's recent work includes a performance as Ann Ming in I Fought The Law, and time in Liverpool ahead of the release of The Cage. Two Birds will land on ITV1 and ITVX in 2027.
