Police are investigating whether five British nationals arrested over a suspected terror plot at RAF Fairford were working for a foreign state. The men have been released on bail pending further enquiries.
Arrests in Gloucestershire
The five men were arrested in Whelford, Gloucestershire in the early hours of Sunday, initially on suspicion of explosives offences and later on suspicion of terrorism.
Lawrence Taylor, head of counter terrorism policing, said: "At this stage we are keep open mind in this investigation."
Possible foreign state involvement
Taylor added: "We are considering this from every possible angle including this may be actively committed by proxies, or by individuals knowingly or unknowingly by a foreign state."
The investigation continues as police examine whether the suspects were acting on behalf of an external power.
