Man killed in Bedford industrial estate explosion

A man has died and three others have been taken to hospital following a suspected explosion at an industrial unit on Brunel Road in Bedford. Bedfordshire Police said officers were called to the scene at around 3:50pm on 23 July 2026.

Police statement and witness accounts

In a statement, the force said: "One man died at the scene and three others have been taken to hospital to receive medical treatment." Witnesses on social media described hearing a loud blast. One person posted: "It sounded like a bomb going off," while another wrote: "Did sound like an explosion of some sort, followed by the sound of lots of debris falling."

Investigation and road closures

Officers remain at the site until the investigation is handed over to the Health and Safety Executive. People have been asked not to speculate on social media out of respect for those involved. An initial cordon has been lifted and all surrounding roads have been reopened, police said.
