A Jet2 flight bound for London Stansted was evacuated at Tenerife South Airport on Friday, September 25, following a reported bomb threat. Passengers who had already taken their seats were ordered to disembark as a security measure.
Security checks and delayed departure
Guardia Civil officers boarded and checked the plane after reports that one person had made a bomb threat, according to Spanish news outlet Atlantic Hoy. All customers set to board the flight and their luggage were checked before the aircraft was cleared for departure.
The Jet2 LS1536 flight was scheduled to leave at 11.20am local time and reach the UK by 3.40pm, but the departure was pushed back to 2.01pm, according to tracker Flightradar24. The plane safely landed at Stansted at 5.49pm.
Airline apology and wider disruption
A Jet2 spokesperson confirmed the incident had disrupted the schedule of one of the company's flights. They told the Metro: "We can confirm that customers were asked to disembark a flight at Tenerife South Airport today following an incident involving a passenger onboard."
"Customers have since reboarded and the flight has now landed at London Stansted as planned. We would like to apologise to everyone onboard for the delay and any inconvenience caused."
The incident also seemingly prompted some disruption to other flights at Tenerife South Airport, with some delays recorded in the afternoon.
This comes after an easyJet flight from Manchester to Hamburg had to return to its departing airport due to a technical issue with the aircraft. The company said the plane was "met by emergency services as a precaution only and customers disembarked normally". Last week, a Virgin Atlantic flight also departing from Manchester had to return to the British airport following a "minor technical issue", which disrupted its journey to New York.
