ITV's new crime drama The Dark, adapted from GR Halliday's novel From the Shadows, will premiere on Sunday, July 12, at 9pm. The six-part series, set in the Scottish wilderness, follows Detective Monica Kennedy as she investigates the discovery of a young man's body, leading her to believe a serial killer is targeting the rural community.

The first episode airs on Sunday, July 12, at 9pm on ITV, with the second episode following on Monday, July 13. Subsequent episodes will air on Sundays and Mondays, with the finale expected on Monday, July 27. All six episodes will be available to stream on ITVX from the premiere date.
Plot Overview
The synopsis describes Detective Monica Kennedy as 'fearless' and notes that she 'fears this is just the beginning of a terrifying campaign that will strike the heart of a rural community.' As paranoia rises, suspicions and secrets are forced into the light, and the locals start to realise that there is a serial killer hidden amongst them.
Cast
Irish actress Laura Donnelly, known for her role as Jenny Fraser Murray in Outlander, leads the cast as Detective Monica Kennedy. She has also appeared in Marvel's Werewolf by Night, HBO's The Nevers, and Hulu's Say Nothing. The supporting cast includes Mark Rowley (Trigger Point, The Last Kingdom), Helen Baxendale (Friends), and Emun Elliott (The Gold, Guilt).
