Five British nationals, all aged in their 20s and from London, have been arrested over a suspected bomb plot near an RAF base used by the US, police have said.
The men were detained in Whelford, Gloucestershire, in the early hours of Sunday. They were initially held on suspicion of explosives offences and later on suspicion of preparation of a terrorist act.
Evacuations after villager's 999 call
A villager in Whelford called 999 after seeing three vans and a group of masked men near the base. Dozens of homes had to be evacuated as bomb disposal teams were called in.
Possible Iran link under investigation
Counter-terrorism police are understood to be investigating whether any potential plot could be linked to Iran, which has previously used proxies to carry out crimes on British soil.
