Police are investigating a violent brawl that broke out at a Birmingham pub during the England vs Ghana World Cup match on Tuesday evening, June 23. Video footage shows a young man appearing to wield a machete in the beer garden of The Beeches pub in Great Barr as punches were thrown among a group of people.

Incident Details

The disorder occurred at the pub located off Thornbridge Avenue, which was hosting customers for the match kicking off at 9pm. Security personnel were seen wrestling with the knife-wielding individual in what appeared to be a children's play area. The Hungry Horse, which operates The Beeches, stated that their security team intervened quickly and professionally.

Police Response

Officers attended the scene and recovered a knife, but no arrests have been made. West Midlands Police said: "We were called to disorder at The Beeches pub on Thornbridge Avenue, on Tuesday night after disorder involving a group of people. Officers attended and a knife was recovered. No arrests have yet been made. We are reviewing footage from the disorder and working with the venue to investigate. Enquiries are ongoing to identify those responsible and anyone who saw what happened should call 101 quoting log 5963 of June 23."

Pub Statement

A spokesperson for The Beeches said: "Our security team intervened quickly and professionally following an incident at the pub on Tuesday, June 23, which we reported to the police. We take these matters extremely seriously and had security measures in place for this event as the safety of our team and customers is our top priority. We do not tolerate any kind of antisocial behaviour and are working closely with the local authorities."
