At least 27 people have been killed in a fire that engulfed a pub in Bangkok early on Monday morning, according to officials. Rescuers reported the fire at around midnight local time (8pm UK time).

Blaze and Response

Footage shared online by emergency services showed the blaze raging out of the front door of the pub in the northern part of the Thai capital as people tried to flee. Thick black smoke billowed into the sky. Firefighters took about half an hour to bring the fire under control, officials said.

Thailand Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul told reporters at the scene that 27 people had died and several others had been taken to hospital. He stated that the cause of the fire was under investigation.
