A 32-year-old former teacher in Australia has been arrested and charged with nine offences after allegedly sexually assaulting a student, including an incident on a school trip.
Allegations and arrest
Deandra Kontou is accused of sending explicit text messages to the male student, touching him inappropriately on several occasions, and pressuring him to touch her. Police also allege she sexually assaulted the boy at around 10 or 11pm while on a school trip.
Kontou resigned from her role at the school shortly after the trip, as rumours about her and the student began to spread. She was arrested on September 21.
Charges and bail
Kontou faces charges including using a device to groom a minor, aggravated sexual assault, and aggravated sexual touching. She appeared before a judge two days after her arrest and was released on bail.
As part of her bail conditions, she must stay away from children unless their guardian is present. She is scheduled to appear in court again on November 26.

Kontou is not the only teacher arrested in connection with Newington College. According to Radar Online, David Benjamin Collinge was reportedly detained for allegedly grooming a minor.
Collinge allegedly tried to convince a 14-year-old girl to send him explicit photos and videos in exchange for money. Detectives also found hard drives containing child abuse material and a mobile phone with screenshots of the content in his possession.
He was charged with using a carriage service or electronic device to groom a child younger than 16, and with viewing child abuse material.
