Sex offender jailed for rape and abuse campaign

A violent sex offender has been jailed following a series of offences against a woman and a young child.

Sergiu Chiriac, 32, was found guilty of 12 counts of rape, actual bodily harm (ABH), and child cruelty at Inner London Crown Court in February. On Friday, he was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment, to serve four years on licence.

Investigation and arrest

A relative of the victim contacted Met officers on March 31, 2025, after she turned up at their home with extensive injuries. When officers arrived at Chiriac’s property, they found signs of disorder, including visible blood staining in one of the rooms. They discovered that Chiriac had attacked the victim, prevented her from leaving the property and threatened her with a knife.

Chiriac was promptly arrested and charged with offences including ABH, criminal damage and child assault, and was remanded in custody. The victim subsequently came to the Met with details of further incidents, including rape, and Chiriac was charged again in September 2025.

Police and victim statements

Detective Constable Izzy Glanvill, who led the Met’s investigation, said: “Chiriac is a dangerous and predatory individual who was responsible for a sustained pattern of violence... and sexual abuse. All his actions were utterly reprehensible.

DC Glanvill hailed the woman who came forward for “showing extraordinary courage” and supporting the investigation, adding the verdict would give “a small measure of comfort” knowing that Chiriac has been held to account.

The woman said she was surprised by the amount of support she had received, saying she felt “genuinely peaceful and happy now” before thanking the police, justice system, NHS and other agencies for helping her.
