A serial rapist described as one of Britain's most prolific sex offenders has been handed a life sentence for a horrific campaign of abuse against young women.
A Calculated Predator's Methods
Chao Xu, aged 33, was sentenced at court on Friday 14 November 2025 after pleading guilty to 24 sexual offences against at least twelve victims. The court heard how his crimes spanned three years, though detectives suspect there could be hundreds more victims who have yet to come forward.
Xu specifically targeted young Chinese students, gaining their trust by hosting professional networking events. He would then spike their drinks with drugs including GHB and Scopolamine before sexually assaulting them while they were incapacitated.
Hidden Cameras and Upskirting
The Metropolitan Police investigation revealed Xu's sophisticated methods of recording his assaults. He placed hidden cameras inside household items throughout his flat and also installed covert recording devices at his workplace.
In addition to these calculated attacks, Xu regularly engaged in 'upskirting' at London Bridge underground station, secretly filming women without their knowledge or consent.
Justice Served and Appeal for Victims
Mr Justice Spencer sentenced Xu to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 14 years before he becomes eligible for parole. The judge described the offences as among the most serious he had encountered.
The Metropolitan Police have issued a fresh appeal, urging any other potential victims to contact them. A dedicated investigation team continues to work on the case and can be reached through the force's specialist crime command.
Detective Chief Inspector John Marsh, who led the investigation, stated: "This represents one of the most extensive and disturbing cases of sexual predation we have encountered. We believe there may be many more women who suffered at Xu's hands and we urge them to come forward.
