Former River City actor Iain Robertson is accused of raping a woman during a holiday in the Lake District after he became angry over a playful game, a court has heard. The 45-year-old faces allegations of physically assaulting the woman on various occasions and behaving in a disorderly manner towards her.
Allegations Spanning 16 Years
Robertson is charged with raping another woman on various occasions between 2018 and 2019, as well as offences involving two other women. He denies a total of eight charges dating from 2004 to 2020.
Woman's Testimony
Giving evidence at the High Court in Glasgow, one woman described an incident during a Lake District holiday. She said Robertson reacted negatively when she played a game involving suggesting film names with one word replaced by a rude word. She recalled seeing him appear in the corridor, looking disgusted and angry, and mouthing at her to get out. They then went to the bedroom, where she said he raped her after she repeatedly said no.
The woman described Robertson as controlling, stating he often started arguments when she met friends or colleagues. She testified that he ignored her refusals and continued with the sexual act, leaving her feeling upset, angry, and confused.
She also recounted an incident where Robertson became violent, punching a fridge and chasing her around his Glasgow home. She locked herself out for safety.
Defence Cross-Examination
Robertson's barrister, Gary Allan KC, challenged the woman's account, suggesting she initiated sexual contact after the argument and never said no or stop. The woman dismissed these claims, stating she was clear about what happened. The trial, presided over by Lady Drummond, continues.
