Nigerian Jailed for Attempted Rape of Woman in Hull

A Nigerian migrant who attempted to rape a woman after a night out in Hull has been sentenced to five-and-a-half years in prison. Qudus Ajeyemi, 27, known by the nickname 'Spartan', was convicted of attempted rape and sexual assault following a trial at Hull Crown Court.

The court heard that the victim, who had consumed alcohol, went to a house on Tavistock Street in early 2023 after a night out. Ajeyemi offered her a bed, but then touched her against her will and undressed. Despite her protests, he continued until she managed to push him off and flee downstairs.

Ajeyemi, who was in the UK on a student visa and lived on May Street in Hull, later contacted the victim via FaceTime, begging for forgiveness. However, she recorded the conversation and provided it to police in March 2023.

Detective Sergeant Ethan Anderson of Humberside Police's Protecting Vulnerable People Unit praised the victim's bravery, stating: 'Ajeyemi preyed on the woman, taking advantage of her and attempted to rape her in a space she ought to have been safe in.'

In addition to his prison sentence, Ajeyemi will be deported to Nigeria upon release, placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life, and subject to a seven-year restraining order.
