Manchester Park Horror: Woman Raped at Gunpoint

Detectives from Greater Manchester Police have launched a major manhunt following a horrific armed rape in a Tameside park. The brutal attack, which saw a woman threatened with a gun by a stranger, has sent shockwaves through the local community.

A Terrifying Ordeal in Broad Daylight

The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon in the park off Taunton Road, Hyde. The victim, whose identity is protected, was approached by an unknown man who then produced a firearm.

Under the threat of the weapon, the woman was subjected to a violent sexual assault. The suspect, described as a white male in his late 20s to early 30s, fled the scene immediately after the attack.

Police Appeal for Crucial Witnesses

Greater Manchester Police have cordoned off the area for extensive forensic examination. Detective Inspector Ben Cottam, leading the investigation, emphasised the severity of the crime and the urgency of the search.

"This was a truly horrific attack on a woman who was simply going about her day," stated DI Cottam. "We are doing everything we can to support her while we work tirelessly to apprehend the individual responsible."

Officers are urging anyone who was in the vicinity of Taunton Road between 2 pm and 4 pm on Tuesday to come forward. They are particularly interested in speaking to dog walkers, joggers, or any motorists with dashcam footage that might have captured the suspect.

Community Support and Increased Patrols

Local councillors have expressed their devastation, describing the park as a usually "quiet and family-friendly" space. In response to the attack, police have assured residents that patrols in the area will be significantly increased.

Specialist trained officers are providing support to the victim as the investigation continues. The police are urging anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to contact them immediately.
