A man has been jailed for voyeurism offences after officers on patrol in north London caught him in the act. Anthony Durkan, 36, was jailed for four years at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Wednesday after pleading guilty to 26 voyeurism charges.
Durkan was caught following reports of a stranger filming through the windows of women’s homes in Islington earlier this year. A woman made a police report in January after a man repeatedly attended her home and filmed through her windows during the early hours of the morning.
Neighbour's alert and security camera evidence
She had been alerted by her neighbour, who witnessed a man dressed in black and wearing a balaclava walk towards the property, holding his mobile phone up to windows and recording inside before walking away. Weeks later, another woman reported that she had also spotted a man recording her through her window. She confronted the suspect, who fled immediately, with the incident captured on a security camera.
The Met increased targeted patrols in the area in response, and Durkan was caught in the act and arrested during a proactive patrol in March 2026. Upon examining devices seized following his arrest, police uncovered evidence of a series of additional voyeurism offences dating back to January 2020.
Hundreds of images and videos found
Hundreds of images and videos of women were discovered across a number of devices, with officers still establishing how many different women they relate to. Despite Durkan's conviction and sentencing, the investigation remains active, and the Met want to hear from women in Islington and north London between January 2020 and March 2026 who may have noticed unusual activity around their home, especially late at night or in the early hours of the morning.
Detective Chief Inspector Gemma Alger, whose team led the investigation, said: “Durkan carried out a calculated and deeply intrusive campaign of offending, targeting women in what should have been the safety and privacy of their own homes. Many victims had no idea they were being watched and filmed.
“This investigation was driven by the determination of officers to act on reports from local women and identify the perpetrator. Through proactive patrols, officers were able to spot Durkan carrying out the same offending behaviour and arrest him before more women could be targeted.
“I would like to thank the victims for the courage they showed in coming forward and supporting this investigation. Their actions, alongside the proactive work of officers who identified and stopped Durkan's offending, have undoubtedly prevented further harm.”
