A man suffering from mental health issues has been sentenced to life in prison for fatally shooting his cousin and wounding his brother during a family wake in west London.
Details of the Incident
Jahmel Joseph, 29, fired a shotgun that struck Jordan Rodney in the eye, killing him instantly. He also shot his brother Omar Joseph in the head and hand. The attack occurred on June 11, 2025, at a gathering in Hammersmith.
Joseph, who has been diagnosed with schizophrenia, claimed during his defense that he believed his cousin was going to kill him due to his psychotic state.
Arrest and Sentencing
The following day, Joseph fled from police, crashing his Mercedes into multiple vehicles and fleeing on foot through gardens before being apprehended. On Thursday, at the Old Bailey, he was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 39 years. As he was led away, a person in the public gallery shouted, “rot in hell.”
A jury found Joseph guilty of murder, attempted murder, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, dangerous driving, and possession of a shotgun. He is from Ealing, west London.
