Girl, 15, raped by three men including brother-in-law in India

A 15-year-old girl in India was subjected to a series of sexual assaults by three men over a single night in October 2021. The attacks began when one of the men lured her to a hotel under the pretense of taking her to visit a temple.

According to testimony presented in court, the man spiked her cold drink, rendering her unconscious before assaulting her. He then placed the victim on a bus heading towards Hisar. Terrified and traumatised, the teenager called a trusted contact for help instead of returning directly home. However, he took her to another hotel and raped her.

Third assault and aftermath

Later that evening, the same man summoned a friend to the hotel, who then carried out a third sexual assault against the minor. The victim was finally dropped off at a bus stand at around 7am the following morning. Desperate for help, she borrowed a phone from a passerby to contact her parents and report the attack.

Following a lengthy legal process, the local court found all three men guilty and handed each a 20-year custodial sentence. In addition to prison time, the court ordered the victim's contact to pay a fine of 70,000 rupees (£630), while the remaining two convicts were fined 60,000 rupees (£540) each.

Other recent crimes in India

The case comes amid a string of horror crimes across India. In Uttar Pradesh's Banda district, police launched a manhunt for a self-proclaimed exorcist accused of raping a 13-year-old girl. The victim's mother had taken her unwell daughter to the home of Parshuram Yadav after neighbours suggested he could cure her illness through occult practices. Instead, Yadav allegedly dragged the teenager to a secluded location and assaulted her before fleeing when the mother rushed to her daughter's cries.

In another horrific incident in Delhi, a 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped on her birthday in Astha Kunj Park after three men - including a court advocate - posed as police officers to intimidate her and her friend. The suspects restrained her male companion, threatened the victim with a gun and knife, and subjected her to a brutal attack. Following the outrage, local officials stressed that the safety of women and girls remains "non-negotiable," with police subsequently tracking down and arresting the suspects involved.
