Detectives in Sussex have released a CCTV image of a man they wish to trace in connection with a rape that occurred seven years ago in Crawley. The victim, who was 19 at the time, only recently came forward to report the attack.
The incident took place in the early hours of 16 May 2008. The woman was walking home alone after a night out with friends when she was grabbed in Quantock Close shortly after midnight. The assailant then dragged her to the entrance of an underpass beneath the A23, where he raped her in nearby bushes.
Detective Sergeant Pete Yarrow of Sussex Police said the victim had been deeply affected by the assault and had struggled to come to terms with it over the past seven years. He appealed for anyone who recognises the man in the image to come forward.
The suspect is described as white, aged about 35, of medium build, and approximately 6ft 3ins (1.9m) tall. He has a tattoo on his chest and was wearing Jean Paul Gaultier fragrance at the time of the attack.
