Christa Pike, the Tennessee death row inmate who regained consciousness after surviving two lethal injections, has no memory of the procedure that left her fighting for her life. The 50-year-old was critically ill in hospital in the Nashville area following the failed execution attempt on September 30.
No memory of the procedure
Pike, who thought it was still September, was set to be executed for the brutal murder of Colleen Slemmer, 19, in 1995. She had been due to become the first woman executed by Tennessee in more than 200 years, but survived two doses of lethal injection drugs when the procedure failed.
Pike had spent three decades waiting for her execution following the horrific killing, which is also known as the "Satanic Panic Murder".
The murder of Colleen Slemmer
Ms Slemmer was tortured by Pike and her boyfriend, Tadaryl Shipp, as the pair carved a pentagram into the teen's chest, while Pike also took a piece of her skull as a souvenir, according to investigators.
