Woman's body found in Stanley Park; death unexplained

The body of a woman was found in Stanley Park on Friday evening, August 28. A member of the public made the discovery and contacted police at around 5.25pm.

Investigation underway

Officers are treating the death as unexplained, and the woman is yet to be identified. Enquiries are ongoing to identify the woman and inform her next of kin. A Home Office post-mortem is to be carried out on Saturday, August 29, to establish the cause of death.

A cordon is in place around the park while the incident is being dealt with. Police have said they are conducting witness enquiries and analysing CCTV.

Police appeal for information

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: “We can confirm officers are this evening, Friday 28 August, in Stanley Park in Liverpool, following the discovery of the body of a woman.

“We were contacted by a member of the public at around 5.25pm. Enquiries are ongoing to identify the woman and inform the next of kin. At this stage the death is being treated as unexplained.

“A Home Office postmortem will take place tomorrow, Saturday 29 August, to establish the cause of death.

“A cordon is in place around the park while the incident is being dealt with and CCTV and witness enquiries are being carried out.
