Woman, 45, dies after Airdrie crash; police appeal

A 45-year-old woman has died after a fatal crash in Airdrie, with police now appealing for information.

Crash details

At around 6.35pm on Tuesday, August 25, officers received a report of a crash involving a blue Audi A3 and a female pedestrian on the town's Varnsdorf Way.

Emergency services attended, however the 45-year-old pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Her family are aware.

Arrest and road closure

The 23-year-old male driver was arrested in connection with a road traffic offence and released pending further enquiry.

The road was closed to allow enquiries to be carried out and re-opened at around 1am on Wednesday, August 26.

Police appeal

Sergeant Elaine Scott said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who died as a result of this crash."

"Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash and hasn’t already spoken to officers to get in touch."

"I would also ask anyone who was in the area and may have dash cam or private CCTV footage that could assist to contact us."
