Two charged with murder of eight-week-old baby in Bourne

A woman from Morecambe and a man from Louth have been charged with murder following the death of an eight-week-old baby in Bourne, Lincolnshire. Lauren Murgatroyd, 26, of Novak Place, Morecambe, and Liam Neve, 26, of Spinney Close, Grimoldby, Louth, were charged on Tuesday evening (23 June) after a complex and large-scale investigation by Lincolnshire Police.

Details of the Incident

Police were called to a property in Bourne on 31 October 2023, where the eight-week-old infant was discovered and rushed to hospital. The baby later died. The investigation has been ongoing since that date.

Additional Charges

Both Murgatroyd and Neve face additional charges: making a false statement concerning birth, causing or allowing the death of a child, two counts of Section 18 grievous bodily harm, and two counts of causing or allowing a child to suffer serious physical harm. Neve also faces two counts of actual bodily harm (ABH).

Police Statement

Detective Chief Inspector Andy McWatt of the Major Crime Unit said: "Our thoughts are first and foremost with those impacted by this deeply devastating case. We have continued to investigate this tragic death since 2023. This has been a complex and large-scale investigation, and we are now in a position to charge two individuals in connection with the incident. We recognise the deep distress this incident has caused and remain committed to seeking justice in memory of the baby who so tragically lost their life."

Court Appearance

Both Murgatroyd and Neve are scheduled to appear before Lincoln Magistrates' Court on 24 June.
