Two British women have died after a four-vehicle pile-up in Romania. The crash involved two trucks, a van and a minibus carrying the victims, who were aged 61 and 41. Eight of the ten dogs on board the minibus also died.
Details of the crash
The collision happened on the DN 6 road in Caraș-Severin, a county in western Romania near the Serbian border. Local police said: “From the first checks carried out on site, the accident involved two truck-trains and a minibus. Unfortunately, following the impact, two women in the minibus died.”
The minibus, which was reportedly UK-registered, was carrying the two British women and ten dogs. Eight of the dogs tragically died. Initial reports suggest the minibus had veered onto the wrong side of the road before crashing into another vehicle.
Investigation launched
Emergency crews had to climb onto the mangled wreckage to reach the victims. Paramedics pronounced the two women dead at the scene. Other drivers were treated for their injuries at the scene and were not taken to hospital.
A manslaughter investigation has been launched to determine the full circumstances of the incident.
